A Themed Story
Line
Our overall story line theme,
“The Passages of TucsonSM,”
was carefully chosen. It is based on significant research of
the areas’ history, culture, diversity and heritage. For
centuries, our location in the Tucson basin has been
accessed by passages through the surrounding mountains. The
ancients believed these passages lead to wellness places,
sacred places and curative places.
Throughout the ages passages have allowed people to
“transform” themselves and have led people to new
experiences, new lands, new discoveries, new life and new
worlds.
Our location for The Passages of TucsonSM
has been a critical passageway for over 10,000 years. Tucson
evolved as a community of cultures intimately connected with
the surrounding mountain passages. It is one of the oldest
continually inhabited communities in North America. Our area
has been a stopping place for hunters, gatherers, Native
Americans, Spanish conquistadors, exploring friars,
ranchers, miners, wagon trains, the legendary Buttersfield
Overland Stage, railroads, highways and now freeways.
The Passages of TucsonSM
will offer unique experiences linked with streets,
sidewalks, paths and corridors that give it a sense of place
that is authentic, not contrived.
This themed story line will create a unique, one-of-a-kind
destination identity that will be the catalyst for a broad
regional draw. The Passages of TucsonSM
is designed to connect people with exciting experiences,
memories, knowledge and the areas history.
